Dear marriage supporter,
David Cameron’s Bill to redefine marriage must be agreed by the House of Lords before it can become law. Please contact a member of the House of Lords today. Urge them to say no to the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill.

The Bill is expected to reach the Lords in the next few weeks. The Government is pushing ahead as fast as possible. We need you to act now.
The Prime Minister wants to redefine marriage, even though he failed to mention it in his party manifesto when asking for people’s votes. He also failed to mention it when he joined with Nick Clegg to produce the Coalition Programme for Government.
Many Peers are opposed to the Bill. The political parties don’t have as much control in the Lords, there is a significant block of independent Peers and the Government has less control over debates in the House of Lords. So there is all to play for.
Please contact The Rt Hon the Lord Luce KG, GCVO, DL,
who sits with the other independents on the Crossbenches.
He does not have a publicly available email address so please write to him at: The Rt Hon the Lord Luce KG, GCVO, DL, House of Lords, London, SW1A 0PW
Use the salutation: Dear Lord Luce
- Say how disappointed you are that the Bill has been pushed through the Commons without proper debate.
- Say that such monumental social change should not be pushed through when it wasn’t a manifesto pledge for any of the three main parties.
- Say the Government is acting with no mandate from the public and our constitution provides the House of Lords with a safeguarding role.
- Say that the Marriage Bill changes the meaning of marriage for everyone.
- Say that Parliament should be trying to fix the economy, not meddling with marriage.
- Say that polls show that many people in the gay community do not want marriage to be redefined.
- Remember to be polite and brief, but also clear and firm.
