St BEDE. On Monday we celebrate the feast of St. Bede…..the Venerable Bede. He is regarded as the greatest of the Anglo-Saxon scholars. Born in the diocese of Hexham and Newcastle in 673AD, His scholarship covered a huge range of subjects, including commentaries of the bible. His most famous work, which is a key source for understanding British history and the arrival of Christianity is “The Ecclesiastical History of the English People. It is the first work of history in which the AD system of dating is used.
