SCRIPTURE

Vanity OF vanities, all is vanity.

Look for things that are in heaven where Christ is………

There is only Christ: he is  everything

And he is in everything

Be on your guard against avarice of any kind, for a man’s life is not made secure by  what he owns.

POPE IN BRAZIL

Mercy is clearly one of Pope Francis’ favourite words. He uses it often  to describe a personal encounter,  in prayer and sacraments, with Jesus Christ It is his term for a loving embrace

that conveys acceptance and forgiveness, not dwelling on people’s’ faults  but looking for the good in them. It was powerfully on display during his visit to  World Youth Day in Brazil which brought three million  young people to the beach in Copacabana to join him at Mass, “to meet Jesus and feel the warmth of his mercy and his love.”

The Pope seems to recognise that the Catholic Church has not  been regarded as  loving and merciful, and therefore has been  untrue to  its divine founder.

…it is seen as  disapproving and judgemental, especially by the generation that World Youth Day wishes to embrace…..

Alongside his  preaching of the church of the poor, Pope Francis preaches a church of mercy.

Sayings of the Pope…”.Jesus  did not tell his disciples to share the gospel ,”if you would like to,or  if you have time. Where does Jesus send us ? There are no borders, no limits. He sends us to everyone.”

“How precious is the family as the privileged  place  for transmitting the faith. How important grandparents are for family life”

For more reports  on the papal visit…see this week’s Catholic press and, of course, the internet.
