Scripture

The Lord appeared  to Abraham…….

The mystery is Christ is among you.

….Mary sat down at the Lord’s feet and listened to him speaking”.

Abraham welcomes God into his life.

As He once came to Abraham, Martha and Mary,

Jesus now comes to us in Word and Sacrament.

THE LIVERPOOL CARE PATHWAY

An independent  inquiry into the Liverpool Care Pathway, chaired by Baroness Julia Neuberger has recommended that the protocol be abolished and replaced  by “individualised  care plans” after evidence  of abuse and suffering was discovered, including numerous examples  of patients dying of thirst.

Dr. Pat Pullicino was the first senior medical  professional to raise the alarm about the pathway when he said that the protocol had made euthanasia a standard way of dying in NHS hospitals.

The review team reported that there had been positive  experiences with the use of the pathway.

Archbishop Peter Smith said the review committee has sought to protect the positive aspects of the LCP while proposing a new, more flexible, personalised framework of “end of life plans. This report and its recommendations are worthy of careful consideration”

This week’s Catholic press gives pretty comprehensive coverage of the report.

BECOMING A CATHOLIC
