MARRIAGE (same sex couples) BILL
MPs will shortly be voting on whether or not to support this fundamental change in the law.
Archbishop Peter Smith has written to us on behalf of the bishops to make our views known to our MP Lindsay Hoyle. Lindsay is deputy speaker and will be chairing the debate and therefore will have no vote but in a letter to our Dean Fr. Marsden, he has promised full support, stating that “ I firmly believe that the government should ensure that churches are not forced to conduct same sex marriages and I have written to David Cameron to stress the importance of protecting churches from any change in legislation”
Archbishop Smith urges us to make our views known to our MP (even though he will not be voting). To this end cards have been provided and are available at the back of church.

SCRIPTURE
Love is always patient and kind; it is never jealous; love is never boastful or conceited; it is never rude or selfish; it does not take offence and is not resentful. Love takes no pleasure in other people’s sins but delights in the truth; it is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope, and to endure whatever comes.

It’s discouraging to notice how often I fall. It’s easy to end languishing in a valley of disappointment and weariness at my personal limits.
But for Jesus what matters is not this or that failure but, to make an act of hope and live the present moment well.
Listen to St. Bernard: those who do not go forward go backwards. So, I can make a proposal: start again; don’t look back, what’s done is done, hand it over to God’s mercy. Live the present moment well. Don’t worry about the future – in hope leave that to God’s loving providence. Focus on the now.Fr. B Leahy
