Marriage (Same Sex) Bill<\/strong><\/p>\n

As the bulletin has already been done \u00a0you are asked, via this page, to challenge this controversial bill. It would be helpful if you would write to Lord Luce to try to\u00a0prevent the bill becoming law.\u00a0The House of Lords will vote on the Marriage Bill (same sex) on Tuesday 4th\u00a0June. Please write to The Rt Hon the Lord Luce, GCVO, DL. The House of Lords, London, SW!A 0PW. Letters should begin using the salutation\u00a0 Dear Lord Luce.<\/p>\n

Below are some suggestions you might like to use in your letter, please select one or two (using your own words).<\/p>\n

1)\u00a0\u00a0 The government is acting without a mandate. Same sex marriage was not in any party manifesto, has been omitted from two Queen’s speeches and has not been the subject of a green paper.<\/p>\n

2)\u00a0\u00a0 Redefining marriage is a big and difficult change, involving rewriting\u00a0 thousands of laws dating back centuries.<\/p>\n

3)\u00a0\u00a0 Widely\u00a0 respected legal opinion shows that introducing same sex marriage would take away the civil liberties of many people, especially those in the public sector such as teachers and foster carers.<\/p>\n

4)\u00a0\u00a0 Marriage has served us well for centuries; it is the bedrock institution of society. It will only remain the bedrock of society if it remains the union of a man and a woman.<\/p>\n

5)\u00a0\u00a0 This is not about rights. All the rights of marriage are already available to homosexuals through civil partnerships.<\/p>\n

6)\u00a0\u00a0 Marriage is being redefined for everyone, over the heads of tens of millions of married people.<\/p>\n

7)\u00a0\u00a0 Many opinion polls have asked very misleading questions and obscured true public opinion against the Bill.<\/p>\n

8)\u00a0\u00a0 Children need a mother and a father; gay marriage denies this.<\/p>\n

9)\u00a0\u00a0 Many homosexuals do not want same sex marriage; several have spoken out publicly and it is confirmed by polls<\/p>\n
