In Leeds alone over 10,000 people were provided with free debt advice, counselling, learning services, and furniture.

Our Social & Justice Committee is trying to broaden the pastoral care and support provided to ex-offenders and the families of prisoners, recognising (through experience) that the great majority of custodial sentences are self defeating, in that they create more problems than they solve

In Norfolk, Conferences have been liaising with their local High Schools and 6th Form Colleges, identifying struggling families and assisting by providing the means for children to participate in extra curriculum activities, and in some cases buying basic school uniforms. I quickly learnt that there was more to the Society than good works. I discovered an ethos that involves members meeting together, with Christ amongst us and serving Him by bringing His Good News to all those who suffer, whether from loneliness, homelessness or from any other form of disadvantage. The spiritual dimension is what distinguishes the Society from many other worthy organisations and makes membership a vocation.”

An SVP group in a church parish is called a Conference.

There are SVP conferences worldwide.

St.Bede’s are “TWINNED” with the conference in Pondicherry, India.

We were pleased to say, in a previous newsletter, that after a number of years of writing to our twin in Pondicherry, that we had received a comprehensive letter containing a number of photographs of the conference members and showing some of the charitable work that they do.
